Sometimes life opens up unique opportunities and when I was presented with the chance to visit her home country for the first time I ran straight toward it. This came at the hands of the ‘Welcome To Jamrock Reggae Cruise’ a 5-night cruise founded by Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley who, alongside his manager Dan Dalton, has created a celebration of the island’s rich culture, selling out every year since its inception in 2014, bar a brief hiatus during the pandemic. This year it consisted of three days cruising and two days docked in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios respectively.

Dancing well into the morning, every five minutes the crowd chanted for the selecta to ‘WHEEL IT UP’, losing their composure each time the DJs suspended on the walkway above played a killer tune. This year the legendary Shabba Ranks, Damian “Jr Gong” Marley and Stephen “Ragga” Marley will hit the stage for what promises to be an explosive return. An additional bonus for those attending is the chance to see living reggae legend Burning Spear perform too. The six-day, five-night cruise will depart from Miami, Florida’s cruise port with stops in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, Jamaica before returning.
